Michael Check is the Director and Principal Services Provider of Precision Mining Solutions.

Precision Mining Solutions is currently based in Melbourne, Australia, and provides services worldwide.

Michael Check

Michael is a qualified Mining Engineer with over 15 years in the mining industry with 11 years in scoping, implementation, application, training, and utilisation of high precision computer aided earthmoving (Terrain) and fleet management systems (MineStar) in gold, copper, coal, iron ore, mineral sands, and bauxite operations across Australasia, Africa, and Europe. His experience in technical mining engineering includes:

• Production engineering
• Short term mine planning
• Pit, road and dump design for large scale operations
• Cost modelling
• Materials handling and alternative mining methods trade off studies
• Mining studies (Conceptual to Feasibility)
• Mine closure cost estimations
• Equipment selection and estimation
• Contractor claim auditing.

Michael has broad exposure to many computer packages and mine planning software packages with most experience using Surpac and Vulcan. Also comprehensive experience in technology installation, calibration and commissioning on large mining equipment (all equipment sizes from skid steer loaders to draglines), technology applications consulting – taking the clients requirements and translating them into system configurations and/or processes followed by implementing those configurations/processes, then preparing and delivering the training to the client. Skills and experience in equipment selection, and subsequent productivity, fleet, and cost modelling. Other extensive experience in:

• Productivity and operational improvements and asset utilisation
• Process mapping and documentation, change management, and system development and integration
• Training material development and delivery
• Survey, GPS HW and SW, and wireless networks
• Automotive mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repairs
• PC hardware troubleshooting and replacement, and server and PC OS, SW, and database installation and configuration.

Michael is solutions-driven, process-oriented, value-motivated, enjoys getting into the details and is tenacious in developing solutions to problems. He has a very strong passion for finding solutions and his passion is strongest in the field of mining. He’s excited to think of alternative and improved ways of doing things in our primary industry and to deliver in more effective ways.
